Rehash of all the other books by Frank Cullotta and Dennis Griffin. All their books tell the same stories in the same words!! Do yourself a favor and buy just one, not all of them. Written quality, well that's good. Good stories but repeated in all their books!
You have heard it all before and it is poorly written. If you can read it for free from library or some $2.99 deal from Kindle then I would recommend it for Mafia expert. Otherwise it is not well done. I think former FBI agent Roemer's book about Spilatro was better and that was certainly not a Mafia true crime classic like say Valachi Papers or Wise Guys. If you have not read many Mafia books, there are over one hundred better than this one.
I am convinced that each time the author of this book has told the stories in this book, they grew larger, more unbelievable and finally when written, ridiculous. The reader will be shaking his head muttering "no way" or "unbelievable" as they read. The author, working on another book on Spilotro, has run out of anecdotes and has resorted to exaggerating minor stories or worse, making them up. As editorial controls and fact checking for this kind of book just do not exist, he was free to run amuck, which he did. Waste of time.
If you've seen Casino you know the story. But this is the story behind the story from a close compadre and hitman. BUT, it's not that good. The writing style is weak and simplistic. There is no cohesiveness. Here's a chapter of two paragraphs on the 20 people we killed or might have killed. By the end, I was bored. Not terrible but I'd prefer my time back.

The author’s recounting of events make the story comes to life as something more than events on a timeline.NO SPOILER ALERTS, but I will say that I did read about several things that I hadn’t ever read before and I have read several books on this subject. Highly recommend!
If ever you want an honest picture of organised crime in the US this is it. Simply written by a former killer & thief about a very close associate of his. It is hard to comprehend the callousness of human beings & this book depicts many who contribute nothing to life except misery. A very matter of fact appraisal of their way of life. Good read.
The style is cut and dried and pretty undramatic, but it captures Frank's doFrank Culottwn-to-earth voice and provides a lot of firsthand knowledge on Tony Spilotro. A must for any Old Time.Vegas fan or collector. I'd live to see a book by Frank that's more about everyday life back in the outlaw days. He knew all the bosses and he he knew the town well, so I think he'd have a lot of interest to say about life in the casinos and around town as it used to be.
This is an excellent, straight forward book on a piece of American history that no one knows more about than Frank Cullotta. His knowledge of the men who made up the mob, and how they ran Las Vegas, is unsurpassed. This is a tell-all book that is written in a conversational style, as though he were sitting with you in your living room. I especially like his explanations of the reasoning behind why "hits" were put on individual gang members. I don't think a fictional novel on how Las Vegas was run by the mob could be nearly as fascinating a read as this book is, and cliche' asit may be to say, I couldn't put it down.
