love it real thick pages
Tokidoki is a cute Japanese-inspired set of characters that have popular for more than a decade. I have a few items which have these characters and was really happy to find a coloring book with many of them in it.There are 32 designs in this book. The designs range from easy to more detailed but are all fun and easy to color. The antics of the characters puts a big smile on my face as I am coloring.The book is in a smaller format and works well for a travel size coloring book. The pages are perforated, so I will plan on keeping the book intact.This is what I found while coloring in the book and testing the paper with my coloring medium:32 Tokidoki designs in a 7 x 9 inch format coloring bookDesigns are printed on one side of the pagePaper is medium weight, white, slightly rough and non-perforatedGlue BindingDesigns merge into the binding areaAlcohol-based markers bleed through the paperWater-based markers leave colorful shadows and can spot through the paper if applied heavilyIndia ink and gel pens do not bleed through. Some gel pens require additional drying time.Colored pencils work well with this paper. I used both oil and wax based pencils and got good pigment, layered different colors and blending easily using a blending stick.
I love the designs, but there is no way to remove pages without accidentally ripping pages. I wish I had bought the coloring pad first, as it has more pages and is much easier to remove pages to color them.
I love tokidoki but it's not something I want on a travel bag or clothing. This coloring book is perfect for me. The paper is a nice weight and can handle gel pens. If you press hard when you color it will press into the next page so I put a piece of cardstock behind it which solves the problem. It's well made and the variety of patterns is nice. These are not complex images. BUT they make up for it in a couple of ways. First, the paper they used is thick enough that I could FINALLY use my alcohol based markers right in the coloring book. One sided images, and they do bleed through to the back, but I cut a sheet of heavy paper to match the interior, and good to go! Second, and related, the lines are thicker than many coloring books, but again, that means I can use my art markers without having them "feather" outside the lines.So I ended up loving this little book way more than I intended, and ordered the coloring pad as well.
I love tokidoki so I was happy to find this coloring book. I like how the pictures are one sided so if you like sharpies as I do then the colors won’t bleed through to the next design.That being said I wish there were more classic tokidoki girl pictures like the LA girl, hula girl, hello kitty, & geisha.I also wish the book had spiral binding with easy rip out pages. Its too tough.I think I’m going to take it to an office store to change the binding.
So, CUTE! I was lucky enough to catch this thing on a sale so I was pleased with that tho the price of it is really good anyways Tokidoki is really pricey on somethings. But their stuff is always so cute. This one came within about 3 weeks I had kinda forgotten I ordered it because I have Amazon Prime and I am use to things coming with in 3-5 days for me just due to my location. This one took a lot longer but it was a fun surprise when it came. I do love the paper is nice to color on and the images are well drawn and very nicely printed!
I'm pretty happy with this little coloring book, though I think it's going to be more of a use-and-toss book more than something I was hoping to keep the pages from.I thought the pages would tear clean from the glued binding. They don't. I tried taking one out and the page had no give at all.The designs go all the way to the edge of the pages, so not being able to tear out a page means your inner edge will be messy as it nears the crease.The book also doesn't lay flat at all. I could probably destroy the books spine and have some luck, the better option may be taking all the pages out with an exacto knife though.As a stress relief coloring, it's fine. I was just expecting different construction that would be better for keeping.
Very cute, printed on one side only, and on somewhat thick paper. My Sharpies did not bleed all the way through to the next page. With more vigorous coloring it is possible though. Its a great little coloring book for the price, a few more pages would be nice but its a perfect travel size.
